Bryan Cole, M.A., LMFT (he/him)
Bryan Cole holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Arts Performance from the University of Montana and earned a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. Bryan has been working with children and adolescents for almost 30 years. He has provided therapeutic support to children and families for over 17 years and has worked in a variety of clinical environments including in-home services, outpatient care, school-linked therapy, children’s targeted case management, and hospital-based care. In addition to Maplewood Psychology, Bryan works for Prairie Care as a program therapist for their Partial Hospitalization Program in Maplewood and as an Emergency Behavioral Health Clinician in the Emergency Department at North Memorial, Robbinsdale Hospital.
Bryan works with preteens, adolescents, families, and adults, with a focus on young people and their families. He believes, without a doubt, that children are the most resilient people on the planet, and it is his obligation to honor and protect that resilience. He provides a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space so clients can find strength to face and grow beyond their challenges. Bryan believes that every person in a child’s family has a part to play in their treatment. By helping them see hope for their child’s future, they can come to understand that not only is progress possible, they can do it together. Bryan believes that progress is like building with LEGOS—starting with one small piece, in time whatever you are building starts to emerge as a greater whole. It’s about small steps, building one LEGO at a time because in mental health care, little is not insignificant—it’s foundational and profound.
Bryan uses an integrated approach to therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Structuralism, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care.
Outside of work, Bryan values time with his family, walks with the poochies, and any time he can get out in nature. His favorite number is 6, his favorite color is blue, and his favorite cartoon character is Chuckie from the Rugrats!
