Is therapy for anyone?
YES! Everyone goes through difficult times and it is beneficial to have someone to process these life events appropriately.
If my child needs therapy, can I talk with the therapist alone?
If you need to talk with the therapist, with your permission, children over the age of 10 may stay in our waiting room while you have a private conversation with the therapist. We require that children under the age of 10 be supervised at all times.
What if I don’t like my therapist?
It is important to feel comfortable with your therapist. If you decide that it isn’t a good fit, your therapist will work with you to transfer your care to another therapist.
What do I do if I am in crisis?
Maplewood Psychology works with a 24 hour answering service. Simply call our main number and follow the prompts to be connected with the answering service, who will contact your therapist for you.
Why is there so much paperwork?
Your written description of your current situation and past experiences gives the therapist time to plan how to best help, allowing more time for other conversation in your first appointment. This work prior to the appointment allows for more time to discuss present issues during your first appointment, instead of spending time gathering background information during the appointment.
How do I fill out paperwork?
We will send you a link to our provider portal where you can access all the paperwork necessary for your first appointment. You also have the option of coming in to the clinic to fill out the paperwork in person. Please note that the intake forms must be completed either on paper or by using a computer, laptop, or tablet. (The software does not allow you to use your cell phone to fill out this paperwork.) If you want to use paper, plan to arrive 30 minutes early for your first appointment or drop by our office on an earlier date.
What insurance is accepted at the clinic?
We accept Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, HealthPartners, Medica, United Health Care, UCare, as well as some smaller third party insurance plans.
How soon can I get an appointment?
Depending on your preferences, you may been seen within 48 hours of your initial call.
Does therapy actually work?
Absolutely! There are decades of research to support the efficacy of therapy. Generally, the more motivated someone is to go to therapy and make changes in their life, the more successful therapy is at decreasing different mental health symptoms. There are many different types of evidence-based therapies but research shows the therapeutic connection between client and therapist is an incredibly important factor.
